The Secretary’s minutes from June were read. Gete Thompson moved and Liz Walker seconded approving the secretary’s minutes.
Motion carried
Ginny Giocotti brought items for sale from the GOP Women’s group. Their next meeting is September 21 at the Penobscot Narrows Observatory in Bucksport. This will be a luncheon meeting. Cost will be $4.00 for observatory and $5.00 for a sandwich.
Charles Webster, State GOP Chair gave a very informative talk of his life, and why he is now a Republican. He went on to explain the same day registration and what it means to fair elections. 42 other states do not allow same day registration. If you vote in Maine you must register your car in Maine and pay state income tax (if any) in Maine. He explained that he asked his secretary to get him contact information on motels in Augusta. In the last election 19 people gave, as their permanent address, the Holiday Inn Express. They voted and have not been heard from again. Presumably they are not from Maine and only came in to vote. The same day registration may end this and give us back our voting rights.
He also explained that it is proposed that the state congressional districts be changed to a North South Line instead of an East West Line to give more people equal representation.
Blue Hill Fair: Steve Montague passed around a sign up for the Blue Hill Fair. He explained that we will have 4 hour shifts and he will hand out tickets for people to come in and work.
Ken Bovee: Whose cousin 4 generations back started the GOP, would like to come and give a talk to us about a book he is writing. We discussed October for a good time.
Next meeting is September 23 at Penobscot Elementary School. Steve Bowen will be the speaker. The schedule will be as follows: Social at 5:30, pot luck dinner from 6-7, speaker at 7, business meeting after.
Liz Walker moved and Denis Blogett seconded adjournment.
Respectfully Submitted
Sandra Blanchette, Secretary
