About Us

Hancock County Republican Committee, Post Office Box 1193, Ellsworth, Maine 04605.

The principle activity of any Republican committee is to help elect Republican candidates. Committees may raise funds to further the objectives of the committee. Among these objectives are to educate the public on political issues, provide advice to subordinate committees, recruit candidates, help candidates organize their campaigns, register voters and promote Republican principles.

Committees are also responsible for recommending to the governor or other responsible official a replacement for Republican office holders who die or are otherwise unable to complete their terms of office. These recommendations are normally accepted.

Perhaps the most important functions of county and local committees are registering voters and getting out the vote. However, the committees can also serve as sounding boards for ideas and candidate positions on issues.

The Importance of Political Involvement

Committees function best when the membership is truly representative of the community. Widespread participation in local politics helps ensure government is responsive to the needs of an entire community not just a portion of that community.
